The Medical Research Council (MRC) is a champion of open access publishing in science, which allows readers to access papers free of charge, without online journal subscription charges.
The aim is to broaden opportunities for high-quality research findings to be widely disseminated and freely available, to advance biomedical research worldwide.
The first MRC policy on open access was introduced in October 2006.
To comply with the UKRI Policy on Open Access, MRC requires all publications to be deposited at the earliest opportunity, and certainly within six months of publication, in Europe PubMed Central. You should also read the MRC additional terms and conditions AC18.
This applies both during and after the period of funding. The condition is subject to compliance with publishers’ copyright and licensing policies. Whenever possible, the article deposited should be the published version.
You can find out more about how to deposit your publication from Europe PMC.
